After just two seasons in Starkville, Mississippi State has decided to fire Joe Moorhead. Moorhead took over as head coach of the Bulldogs after the 2017 season when Dan Mullen left for Gainesville. The former Penn State OC was 14-12 in across his two seasons with the Bulldogs, including an 8-4 season in 2018.
Mississippi State had decided to retain Moorhead for the 2020 season following the regular season. However, they changed their mind following the poor showing at the Music City Bowl and the altercation at practice that left QB Garrett Shrader injured. This late in the hiring cycle it will be hard for Mississippi State to find a new head-man. The decision to fire Joe Moorhead is one that could make or break the program, depending on who the next hire will be.
It will be interesting to see where Mississippi State decides to go from here.
