The WMU Broncos are the hottest team in hockey. They’re 9-0-1 in their last 10 games which is their longest unbeaten streak since 2010-11 and currently the longest unbeaten streak in the country. After a sweep of conference rival Miami (OH) last weekend, the Broncos look to take their momentum on the road to #2 St. Cloud State.

The streak started with a sweep of then #11 North Dakota on the road followed by a sweep of Niagara at home. That brought the defending national champions, #3 Minnesota-Duluth, into Lawson Arena. The Broncos won the first game 3-2 and tied game two 1-1 (WMU won in a shootout.) Then dominated the Ice Vegas Invitational winning games against UConn and Air Force. Then this weekend a sweep of #20 Miami (OH) put the streak at 10 games and set up a huge series this weekend in Minnesota.

During the same 10 game stretch, the St Cloud State Huskies are 6-2-2. Wins coming against Bemidji State, Nebraska at Omaha, Robert Morris, and Minnesota Duluth. Losses to Union College and Minnesota Duluth and a tied series against Miami (OH). The Huskies are still ranked 2nd after the split series this weekend and lead the NCHC by 4 points over WMU.

This weekends series has huge implications for the NCHC standings with the Broncos and Huskies being the top two teams and this being their first meeting of the season. If the Broncos can keep their streak alive over the weekend it gives them great momentum as we approach the final stretch of the season. If the Huskies can win this series it helps to put them back on track after losing their #1 ranking this week. These two teams are playing great hockey and fans can expect two intense games this weekend.
