Following Sunday’s reports of College Football getting into its “Critical stage” by Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger and Pat Forde, the Big Ten voted in favor of the cancellation of its 2020 season on Monday, allegedly.
The PAC12 decision is expected to be correlated with the Big Ten’s (no matter the call), and could be cancelled as soon as Tuesday. Both conferences are expected to make official statements tomorrow on the College Football season if followed through with.
Fuel to this weeks’ fire began when the Mid-American Conference (MAC) decided to postpone fall sports on Saturday.
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) will be having a conference call today, to just discuss what the other conference’s are doing. They are not expected to a make a final decision or vote on anything just discussion on future plans.
Players across the country from power five schools have been taking to social media to express their thoughts on the season. Players from all conferences have been using the joint hashtags “WeAreUnited” and “WeWantToPlay” to show unity and commitment.
One industry source stated “In the next 72 hours college football is going to come to a complete stop”. Per Sports Illustrated.
Although with the potential cancellation of the season, the players message couldn’t be more clear. THEY WANT TO PLAY. Players know how crucial this season is for some current unknowns if they want to take their skill-sets to the next level. A popular unknown player at this time last year was former LSU QB and no.1 overall pick, Joe Burrow. If this were to happen last year around this time, who knows where Burrow would be right now?
The collaboration with players started with the anonymous PAC12 boycott threat and posted on The Players Tribune. The players intended to unite college players for awareness on concrete health guidelines and social injustices solved within the NCAA.
