2020 Early Heisman Odds
Following Joe Burrow’s masterful Heisman-winning season, 2020 early Heisman odds dropped on Monday night. At this point, their are still players who haven’t declared, recruits who haven’t committed, and battles that haven’t been won. At this point last year, you likely would not have found Joe Burrow listed on any Heisman odds released this early. This gives us the opportunity to look for value or see who is overrated. Here are Bovada’s 2020 Early Heisman odds from Tuesday morning.
The Favorites
Justin Fields leads that way after his stellar first year at Ohio State. Trevor Lawrence is likely to be the first pick in next year’s draft so it is no shock that he is here. Following these two is where things get interesting.
D’Eriq King just announced on Monday night that he will be entering the transfer portal, so we currently have no idea where he may end up. Myles Brennan is a true unknown as he will be following up Joe Burrow in Baton Rouge and has not see much meaningful playing time. Spencer Rattler will be starting his first college football game, yet is in fifth for Heisman odds due to the reputation of Lincoln Riley and Oklahoma. Adrian Martinez had a rough season and is likely being overvalued once again. Jamie Newman has transferred to Georgia and is joining a Bulldog offense that is having to completely reload.
Value Picks
Some great values I see beyond that tier would be Kedon Slovis, Sam Howell, Chuba Hubbard, Kyle Trask, KJ Costello, and Najee Harris. Slovis will be in his second season with Graham Harrell and USC. He will likely put up spectacular numbers, but it depends how confident you are in USC winning games. Sam Howell had an outstanding freshman season and would need to build on that.
Chuba Hubbard just announced that he is returning the Oklahoma State after a great season rushing. Kyle Trask is interesting because he played well in relief of Feleipe Franks after his injury. Florida could also be in position to compete for a national title in 2020. We do not know where KJ Costello will wind up, but he is transferring from Stanford. Costello will be a great addition to an offense somewhere.
Lastly, Najee Harris is one of the most talented backs in the country and reportedly will return to Alabama. Harris could follow the path of past Alabama backs like Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry in route to a Heisman. At +5000, the value is too good to pass up.
