As soon as the final whistle blew in New Orleans, books were already posting their 2020 National Championship odds. While this isn’t unusual, at this point we still don’t know who may declare for the draft or where some recruits will choose to go on signing day. This makes looking at 2020 national championship odds this early both risky and potentially profitable. Because of the uncertainty, you are likely able to find some teams that are undervalued in the market. Here are Bovada‘s listed odds from Tuesday morning.
National-runner up Clemson leads the way with the return of Trevor Lawrence while national champions LSU lose a step, falling to the fourth highest odds after losing Joe Burrow. Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia are towards the top again, just like most of the past few years.
I think that some interesting values arise in the next tier of teams. Florida and Oklahoma both provide some value. With Florida you have Trask returning and with Oklahoma you have blue chip recruit Spencer Rattler taking over under center. Rattler also has the fifth highest Heisman odds for 2020. One of these teams could potentially take the jump up to the next level next year, but I wouldn’t be on any team listed outside of the top ten.
