2023 Virginia Cavaliers Football: A Team Of Mystery

The Virginia Cavaliers are looking to bounce back after the tragedy that happened during the football season in 2022. They’re starting quarterback transferred to NC State and that leaves a big hole on offense for the Cavaliers. Does Tony Elliott have enough in the tank to have Virginia bounce back in 2023? Here is the preview for the 2023 Virginia Cavaliers football team.

Offense

With Brennan Armstrong transferring, the Cavaliers were in need of a quarterback. A quarterback battle between Jay Woolfolk and Monmouth transfer Tony Muskett is going to take place the entire camp. I think Muskett will end up winning that battle and he’s got some potential to be a good quarterback for Virginia.

The Cavaliers also added Northwestern wideout Malik Washington via the transfer portal to their receiving core. Washington last season had 65 receptions to go along with 694 receiving yards and added a touchdown as well. He should be the number on target for the Cavaliers in 2023. The Cavaliers have two seniors holding down the fort on the right side of the offensive line. While the left side and the center are all sophomores. The offensive line will need to be in tip-top shape for the offense to flourish.

Defense

Virginia needs to improve in a lot of areas in 2023 defensively. The first thing that they did was bolster their secondary by adding Iowa State transfer Tayvonn Kyle to the mix at cornerback. I really liked Kyle during his time at Iowa State and I think he’ll be a great addition to the Cavaliers secondary.

Every starter will be an upperclassmen this season from the front seven to the secondary. Having the experience helps, but I think this defense is a long way away from being a good defensive unit in 2023.

Win Total Prediction

The win total is set at 3.5 wins on the FanDuel Sportsbook. The over is set at -105 odds while the under is set at -115 odds. This is going to be a rough season for the Cavaliers. They got a tough non-conference schedule and their road in the ACC is far from easy. This is going to be a two unit play for myself. I’m taking the under 3.5 win total at -115 odds for two units. I just think too much is going on and a lot of questions won’t be answered by the time the season starts. Virginia gets at most two wins in 2023. Hammer their under for the win total.
