Micah Parsons, a five-star defensive end from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, has recommitted to the Penn State Nittany Lions. Parsons had originally committed back in February of 2016 before withdrawing that commitment this April. Parsons had also taken visits to Ohio State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Georgia before deciding to head to Happy Valley.
The controversy in Parson’s recruitment came from his visit to Ohio State. Parsons visited Columbus while College Gameday was there and ended up receiving impermissible benefits by getting credentials for the show and meeting former OSU athletes Kirk Herbstreit and Eddie George, who were media members. This seems like another dumb NCAA rule, but the Buckeyes vowed to stop recruiting Parsons after this to avoid farther penalty for the NCAA.
Standing at 6’3 and weighing in at 241 pounds, Parsons could play as either a defensive end or an outside linebacker, depending on how the coaches want to use him. For Harrisburg High this year, Parsons racked up 55 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, and 9.5 sacks.
Parsons is a pass rushing talent like the Nittany Lions have not had in a long time and the big recruiting gaff could end up haunting Ohio State for at least three years.
