A Wild Night In Bedlam

Man. What a game.

It’s hard to even process everything that happened in the Bedlam shootout. All I remember is there was an abundance of offense, and essentially nothing resembling defense. Oh yeah, and that the Sooners emerged victorious, 62-52. The 114 points scored on Saturday was a Bedlam record for combined points. It was the fifth most points ever scored by Oklahoma in the series, and the most ever scored by Oklahoma State.

So, if you are like me and need a recap of the Bedlam explosion, here is a summary of the biggest moments and statistics from Saturday’s game.

Baker Mayfield brought back his handlebar mustache just for Bedlam. And it was glorious.

In case you guys did not see it, Baker Mayfield went absolutely bonkers. He threw for a cool 598 yards on just 24 completions, and was the main reason the Sooners stayed in the game despite the fireworks from the OSU offense. Not only that, but he solidified himself as the Heisman frontrunner. Mayfield is now 3-0 in the Bedlam matchup, and has more Bedlam victories than OSU head coach Mike “Mullet King” Gundy.

This 77-yard touchdown touchdown from Baker to wide-receiver Marquise Brown with just under 12 minutes in the fourth quarter gave the Sooners a ten-point lead, and ultimately the game. Marquise Brown had a breakout game for the Sooners, finishing with 265 yards and two touchdowns. The 265 yards set an OU school record for receiving yards in game.

I have to give credit to the OSU offense, particularly Mason Rudolph. This was just one of several spectacular throws he had on Saturday. He finished with 448 yards on passing on 28/54 for five touchdowns. OSU running back Justice Hill had quite the day as well, totaling 228 yards on 30 carries. Both of these guys are special talents, and likely have very successful NFL careers in front of them.

This was a very big play in the game. After this play, the Cowboys looked to be ahead 10-0 very early in the game. However, after a long review, the call was reversed and OU was able to punt the ball away. While obviously I was very happy that the play was reversed due to my OU fandom, I would have been very upset as an OSU fan. This looked like a fumble to me. However, I guess no one really knows what a fumble is anymore.

But the most important thing to remember is that OU won. Again. Improving their series lead to 87-18-17 over the Pokes.
