The Top 5

  1. North Carolina 21-4 (9-2)

For the fourth week in a row, I have Carolina in the top spot. This past week involved an odd situation as UNC had to leave campus and take on Notre Dame in Greensboro. They held a good sized lead most of the game to put away the Irish. Now things are starting to get tough as the Heels have Duke to look forward to this week.

  1. Louisville 19-4 (7-3)

Despite not playing any teams of real merit, Louisville picked up two blowout wins this week. They may be the best team in the conference as of right now, but I’m not willing to put them there until they prove it. They will have a chance to do just that tonight against Virginia.

  1. Florida State 20-4 (8-3)

The Seminoles ended their skid this week by absolutely demolishing anything in their path. They were able to win in the tough environment at Miami by 18, and then against Clemson by 48. FSU will get NC State and a rematch against Notre Dame this week.

  1. Duke 18-5 (6-4)

They have finally arrived. After weeks of not being in these rankings, the preseason championship favorites have started to make some noise. Grayson Allen has been putting his game together, and stopped tripping everything in sight, during the Blue Devils’ 3-game win streak. As much as everyone in America hates it, this team is going to go on a run.

  1. Virginia 17-5 (7-3)

After a tough loss at the Carrier Dome, things won’t be getting any easier for the Cavaliers. Looking to keep a chance at another regular season title alive, they will have to beat Louisville and on the road at rival Virginia Tech this week.

Performance of the Week: John Gillon, Syracuse (43 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds) vs. NC State

Game of the Week: #8 North Carolina at #18 Duke

Need I say more?

Play of the Week: John Gillon game-tying three to force OT and eventually beat NC State. It’s John Gillon’s world and we’re all just living in it.
