We have a very diverse range of opinions here at Student Union, but somehow we were all able to agree on three first-team All-Americans. Every single ballot submitted had Lonzo Ball, Frank Mason and Caleb Swanigan among the top-five players in the country. We also had a near-consensus on the Freshman of the Year Award as Lonzo Ball garnered all but one vote for that award. The one non-Lonzo vote was for Malik Monk (related: we have exactly one writer who goes to Kentucky).
The Coach of the Year voting was closely contested, but Gonzaga’s Mark Few ultimately edged out UCLA’s Steve Alford by a single vote. Baylor’s Scott Drew, who was our coach of the year when we published our mid-season awards, received zero votes in our postseason poll. It is worth pointing out that our first-team All American squad looks the exact same as it did mid-season.
Without further ado here are your postseason award winners as voted on by our staff. As always please tweet your complaints to @Maiers_Luke.
