ASU Takes Down KU 95-85

The Arizona State Sun Devils have been the most impressive team in Arizona, let alone in the Pac-12. The Sun Devils have had enjoyed an 8-0 start, with wins over San Diego State, Kansas State, Xavier, St. John’s, and now this outing versus Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse.

My first experience at Allen Fieldhouse was not as exciting, and enjoyable as the ride these Devils had going into Allen and creating chaos.

TWO STRAIGHT LOSSES FOR KANSAS UNIVERSITY BASKETBALL!!!

I waited all of football season for basketball season, because that is what KU fans told me. “Just wait till basketball, just wait till basketball.” Well KU fans, it’s basketball season, and you guys have 2 losses before conference play, before you play Trae Young, before Press Virginia, before the Octagon of doom.

The Game

Bobby Hurley and ASU went into KU looking more confident than Bill Walton calling this game, and the results showed. Going into Lawerence with a 10 point W is not easy, but ASU sure made it look like it.

ASU shot 14/28 from 3, and 50% from the field as well. This is an immediate translation to a win, and at Allen Fieldhouse, it is no easy feat.

Tra Holder, the Senior from LA, played all 40 critical minutes, scored 29 and had 7 dishes to complete the upset in Lawrence. He has been a rock for the Sun Devils against the national powers of college basketball and with this outing, and putting a 40 spot up against Xavier. He cannot turn the ball over as much in Pac-12 play, especially against U of A later this month.

Freshman Remy Martin added 32 minutes off the bench, and scored 21 points, going 2-2 from 3. This team can be reaaaalllllyyyy dangerous if they have all of the boys going, as well as those grey unis…

KU’s Season So Far

I love that there is going to be so much fuss, but really they have all of the ingredients to be the best team in the nation, I guess this team just hasn’t figured it out yet.

@Austin Montgomery & His Takeaways

The #16 Arizona St. basketball program improved to their first 9-0 start in school history in incredible fashion by upsetting the #2 ranked Kansas Jayhawks at Allen Fieldhouse. This is a historic win for the ASU basketball program, as the game was broadcast Sunday afternoon in front of a national TV audience on ESPN, DURING FOOTBALL.

A Kansas home loss is historic itself, but ASU also snapped the Jayhawk streak of 37 consecutive victories at Allen Fieldhouse. In addition, the result was KU’s 11th home loss during Kansas coach Bill Self’s 15 year tenure, which includes the first time it has happened back to back in his entire career in Lawrence. ASU won as a 12 point underdog, making the result one of the biggest and most significant upsets of the college basketball season.

After the win, ASU will be ranked in the top 10 in the college polls and they will be the most polarizing Arizona sports team. ASU also resemble a wildcard upset story since they were picked to finish 9th in the Pac-12 conference in the preseason.  Bobby Hurley has done a miraculous job turning around the basketball program in Tempe. ASU stars Shannon Evans, Tra Holder, and freshmen Remy Martin are all exciting players that deserve national recognition.
