Beat the Spread Picks February 27th

Beat the Spread picks for Tuesday is back. After a disappointing 1-3 yesterday, Alex and Austin are hoping to get back on track. The boys tried to record a radio segment this afternoon, but the phone line sounded like a West Virginia tunnel and the static fizzled like a 90’s  Television PSA announcement. So here we are on a loaded senior day slate giving you five total picks on the day.

Joint Pick: ESPN 2 9:00 PM EST: TCU (-6.5) vs Kansas St:

Both Alex and Austin are high on the ESPN prime time nightcap between TCU and Kansas St. Austin and Alex are (3-0) over the course of their joint picks so far. While 52% of the public bets and 72% of the money are on the Wildcats, we recommend you to be siding on the Horned Frogs tonight. TCU will be playing in their senior night game in Schotomer arena, in what that has been a program changing season. TCU has been very good at home posting a 14-3 record and +11.3 winning margin. TCU’s two starts Kenrich Williams and Vladimir Brodziansky will be playing their last home games. Williams is averaging 12.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per contest and has recorded 10 double-doubles this season. Williams should dominate the glass against a Kansas St Wildcat team that ranks 323rd in defensive rebounding percentage. Brodziansky leads TCU in scoring averaging 15.4 points per contest and has scored in double digits in 20 consecutive games. Expect Brodziansky and Williams to go out with a bang. TCU’s last win on senior night came on March 9, 2013, a 70-67 win over Oklahoma, but expect that to change Tuesday night. TCU will be pumped up and ready to win for their seniors. Expect Vegas to collect some money on the Horned Frogs tonight.

Austin’s Picks:

Boise St (+4) @ San Diego St:

The Broncos will be traveling to play the Aztecs in Viejas arena without star forward Malik Pope. The Broncos have the better record and best  player on the court in Chandler Hutchonson. It is no easier task winning on the road in San Diego. The Boise St sits on the bubble of making the NCAA tournament and they are in dire need of quality road win. The Broncos will have an opportunity to capture a significant win Tuesday night and they should be ready for the challenge. Both public and sharp money has moved the spread from 3-4 and we are recommending to go against the grain once again. SDSU is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games. However, SDSU will face a tough task trying to guard Hutchinson without Pope. San Diego St doesn’t have another big who can exploit Boise St weak interior defense. I expect this to be a close game throughout and can see Boise St pulling out a road victory in this spot.

St.Bonaventure (-2) vs Davidson:

Bonnies haven’t lost a game since falling 83-73 to Davidson back in January. They will get a shot at redemption on Senior Night as they welcome in the Wildcats onto their home court. The Bonnies are playing their best basketball at the right part of the season and they will get tested by a good Davidson team. The Wildcats are on a 4 game winning streak on their own, and the Bonnies have a chance for quality victory. Super Star Point guard Jaylen Adams has been a staple for St.Bonaventure program who chose to stay at program declining offers to go to high major teams as a graduate transfer. Adams is a dynamic two way player averaging 20.5 points and 5.1 assists game. Adams and fellow senior guard  Matt Mobley make up one of the most dominant backcourt combinations in the country. St.Bonaventure is graduating three seniors: Adams, Mobley, and Idriss Tarquee who have played a combined 343 games for St.Bonaventure. St.Bonnie is 21-3 in their last 24 home games against Atlantic 10 opponents. Davidson is a great shooting team and made 14 threes in their first matchup. However, the Bonnies possess one of the best three point perimeter defenses in the country allowing just 30% effective field goal percentage from three ranking top 10 nationally. The Bonnies have a chance to add to their tournament resume, complete a revenge game on senior night, while sending off their legendary seniors on a positive note. The Bonnies will play their hearts and there is no doubt in my mind that the Bonnies will secure this victory at home.
