Biggest Win/Most Cupcake Win of the Week

College football is back! Week 1 has finally come and gone, and there were some great games and some not so great games. This new weekly series is pretty simple: the biggest win of the week in terms of importance, and the most cupcake win with a terrible matchup going exactly the way we expected.

Most Cupcake Win of the Week: Georgia beats Austin Peay, 45-0

It is week 1 so most schools schedule an easy opponent to help knock the rust off and to help the team mesh. Austin Peay is a D-1 FCS school who is not very good at football. Yes, all their players are probably better than me, but in comparison to Georgia… They were 0-11 in 2016 and their toughest opponent was Kentucky (who was not ranked). Since 2014 Austin Peay is 9-38 including Saturday. They have a .349 winning percentage in program history. This game wasn’t even close at any point, not even when it was tied 0-0. Georgia controlled the whole game only giving up 152 total yards of offense and no points. Georgia gets the most cupcake win of the week.

Biggest Win of the Week: Auburn beats Washington 21-16

A neutral site location, Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. A matchup between #6 Washington and #9 Auburn. This game was dubbed the Nice Game, if you know what I mean. Auburn came out of the gates fast, scoring a TD on their first drive and then picking off Jake Browning 6 plays later. That pick led to a field goal and a 9-0 lead over the Huskies. But the Tigers were looking at a 16-15 deficit with less than 10 minutes to go when they put together a touchdown drive that would put them up 21-16 and the score would stay that way. A big week 1 win against a Washington team still ranked in the top 10. The Auburn Tigers get the biggest win of the week.
