America’s most beloved college football coach has been diagnosed with throat cancer. This is an excerpt from the official press release from Kansas State University.
“I have been diagnosed with throat cancer and have been receiving outpatient treatment at the KU Medical Center for about three weeks and am getting along very well. The doctors and staffs at both KU Med and M.D. Anderson (in Houston, Texas) have been great; working so very well together to finalize the overall treatment plan which is being conducted in Kansas City. Both ‘teams’ have projected a positive outcome and have worked out a schedule that allows me to be in Kansas City for my regular treatments and still be back in the office on a regular basis through the first week of March. Sean, along with our coaching and support staffs, remain highly productive in carrying out their responsibilities keeping us on track.
As awful as this news is, can we take a moment to talk about what a badass Bill Snyder is? Dude get diagnosed with throat cancer at age 77, and he still refuses to step away from coaching even for a few weeks. Seriously, as a football fan, how do you not respect the hell out of this guy? As if taking one of the worst programs in college football history and making them a consistent top 25 team wasn’t enough, now he’s gonna go beat cancer in between spring practices.
I think I speak for every American when I say that our prayers are with the Snyder family. Kansas State says they have no doubt Snyder will be on the sidelines chasing career win 203 as the Wildcats take on Central Arkansas, neither do I.
