The rich continue to get richer. As the sun rose on the east coast this morning, the Buffalo Bills and GM Brandon Beane worked out a deal with former Bears and Rams pass rusher Leonard Floyd. Floyd reportedly signed a 1-year deal with Buffalo, but financials of the deal have not been disclosed yet.
Leonard Floyd came into the league in 2016 with the Chicago Bears, and as a rookie really excelled tallying 33 tackles, 7 sacks, and 2 pass deflections. That earned him 2016 PFWA All Rookie Team, but then he fell off a bit. Over the next three seasons, he didn’t notch over 5 sacks in a season. This led to Floyd signing a 1-year deal with Los Angeles and it was where he was reincarnated. In his first season with the Rams, he totaled 55 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries.
His play in the 2020 season earned him a massive contract with the Rams. He inked a 4 year, 64 million dollar deal. The following season in 2021, he kept his play up making 70 tackles and 9.5 sacks and was integral in the Rams winning the Super Bowl. Floyd’s final season in Los Angeles was in 2022 when he made 59 tackles and 9 sacks. While he played very well, his cap hit was too large for the Rams to handle so he was released. Floyd was without a home until today when he Buffalo Bills signed him to better their pass rush.
Buffalo’s Star Studded Front Seven Improves
With the addition of Floyd, the Bills pass rush gets substantially better, but it was already pretty good. On the interior, Ed Oliver dominates the run and even added 3.5 sacks last year. Off the edge, Greg Rousseau totaled 8 sacks last season while his partner-in-crime Von Miller also had 8 sacks, but he did it in just 11 games. Other players that contributed to the Bills pass rush were Shaq Lawson with 3.5 sacks, AJ Epenesa with 6.5 sacks, Boogie Basham with 3 sacks, and Matt Milano with 4.5 sacks.
In 2022, the Bills were a middle of the pack pass rushing team. They totaled 40 regular season sacks, but by adding Floyd, they could become an elite pass rushing unit. If you’re a fan of the Bills (CC Luke Owens) then you’re thrilled. If you’re a fan of the Patriots, Dolphins, or Jets, then this signing sucks.
