The Florida State Seminoles will unexpectedly have a new starting quarterback in 2019. Willie Taggart announced Sunday, “I informed Deondre Francois that he is no longer a member of the Florida State football program”.
News started to circulate when Saturday night, Francois’ long-time girlfriend made an Instagram post alleging domestic abuse from Francois. The post is now deleted, but the text read:
“I normally don’t put my business on ig, but I am tired of my name being drug through the mud since the beginning, I have been silent. For 2 years I have been in a domestic situation with (Deondre Francois)… I thought I loved him and thought he could change for the better but it has gotten worse. I lost my first child because of all of the beating and I suffer from post Partum depression. This situation is taking a toll on my life. Yes, I stayed after that because I was stupid and blinded by love. This isn’t love. You are a coward and this isn’t right. Just because you are who you are that doesn’t give you the right to put your hands on a woman ever!!!”
Along with this caption, the victim posted a video, that included the sounds of a verbal altercation. The video can be viewed here, but discretion is advised.
This is not Francois’ first accusations of domestic violence as police were called to his home in January of 2018, but no charges ended up coming from it due to the lack of witnesses. The individual posting the video is the same one who made the 2018 accusation, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.
Upon Francois’ dismissal from the university, James Blackman is now expected to be the starter in 2019. Blackman had previously entered his name into the transfer portal, but will likely return upon this news. Francois will end up getting another chance at his football career, but this behavior is unacceptable.
