Building the Ideal CFB Fantasy Team through the Start of the Season

Since Kenyan Drake and the rest of my NFL fantasy team decided to disappoint me once again, I started thinking about what it would be like if I forgot about my mediocre team and got a fresh start in the college game. Here are the players through the first few weeks of the season who would have been putting up substantial numbers for your college football fantasy team thus far.

QB- Cole McDonald, Hawaii, Sophomore: 2,100 pass yds, 24 pass TD, 227 rush yds, 2 rush TD

McDonald is at the helm of an electric Hawaii offense that has averaged over 42 points per game and just won a 5OT thriller over San Jose State. He leads the country in passing yards and passing touchdowns, and only has two interceptions. This is a team worth staying up late to watch.

RB1- Darrell Henderson, Memphis, Junior: 760 rush yds, 9 rush TD, 171 rec yds, 2 rec TD

Darrell Henderson currently boasts an absurd 11.7 yards per carry average, somehow besting his previous season, where he notched 8.9 yards per carry. Henderson has put up 188 yards or more and multiple touchdowns in three of Memphis’s five games.

RB2- Jermar Jefferson, Oregon State, Freshman: 727 yds, 8 TD

Oregon State is off to a rough start this year, but no fault should fall upon Jefferson. In their loss to Arizona State this weekend, he racked up 254 yards on the ground, while his quarterback, Conor Blount, managed just 145 through the air.

WR1- John Ursua, Hawaii, Junior: 771 yds, 12 TD

Ursua is another Rainbow Warrior who is having himself a season. He would be a consistent producer for your college fantasy team, scoring at least 19 points (in standard leagues) in each of his six games.

WR2- Andy Isabella, Massachusetts, Senior: 648 yds, 7 TD

Isabella is far and away leading the UMass Minutemen receiving corps in production, outpacing the next best pass-catching option by 26 catches, 456 yards, and six touchdowns.

TE- Josh Oliver, San Jose State, Senior: 336 yds, 2 TD

No college tight end has been producing quite like the Gronkowskis or Travis Kelces of the NFL, but this 6’5” senior has carved out a nice role for the Spartans.

Flex- (RB) Benny Snell Jr., Kentucky, Junior: 639 yds, 8 TD

Is Kentucky a football school? Benny Snell Jr. had the highest week-to-week Heisman odds increase two weeks ago of any player (Westgate) after he shredded the Mississippi State defense for 165 yards and four scores. If you were counting, that’s a game-changing 40.5 fantasy points.

D/ST- Florida Gators

The Gator defense has been lights out for the most part this season, leading FBS in turnovers gained (wonderful for your fantasy team) and holding opponents to 14 points per game- good for the 9th best spot nationally.

K- Andre Szmyt, Syracuse, Freshman

Kickers matter too, of course- Szmyt already has made 13/14 FG attempts (2/2 on 50+ yds), and 26 PATs for the undefeated Orange.

Bench– QB Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State, Sophomore, QB Malcolm Perry, Navy, Junior, RB AJ Dillon, Boston College, Sophomore, WR Jonathan Duhart, Old Dominion, Senior, TE Jace Sternberger, Texas A&M, Junior
