On the morning of August 25, the Arizona Cardinals decided to make Budda Baker the NFL’s highest paid safety. The Cardinals extended Baker on a 4- year deal worth $59 million with $33.1 million guaranteed, per Ian Rapoport. The extension will run through the 2024 season.
Despite the leagues’ newly highest paid safety not having one career interception, he makes a massive impact on other areas on the field. Since entering the NFL in 2017 Budda Baker has made 240 solo tackles and finished 4th in total tackles last year, which earned him his second Pro Bowl selection .
Baker’s 147 total tackles in 2019 was good enough to be the most from a DB in the last 10 seasons. The closest player to that number of tackles from the last decade was safety Antoine Bethea for the Colts in 2011.
