As I continue to talk about teams I could care less about, I find myself talking about Boomer Sooner. I must say, I could’ve cared less if you brought these guys up before the season started, but after the game at the Horseshoe, I have a new found hate/love relationship with the one they call Baker Mayfield.
The Case For: The Quality of Wins
Yes, the Big 12 hasn’t seen the playoff yet. Yes, it is possible that SOME of the schools in the Big 12 are overrated. However, this Oklahoma team is the real deal. They rolled Ohio State *insert crying emoji*, thrashed Oklahoma State, and ran over TCU (with a possibility for a second win against the frogs this weekend.) These wins surely have to carry some weight, but to the extent, that is unknown.
The Case Against: Conference Over Look
Now you may read this and think, “How is anyone overlooking the Big 12?” Well the fact that we’re only talking about Oklahoma making it is exactly why that is the case. The fact no one is giving TCU a shot is outrageous, they have been one of the best teams in the country, but because they’re second fiddle and haven’t played any big names outside of the Big 12 this year, they lose that national respect that you see Oklahoma getting.
Will They Get In?
No, I don’t think they get in. The second time around Gary Patterson has his defense ready for whatever Baker throws at them, and his offense is much more aware of the defensive speed that the Sooners bring to the table. A two loss Oklahoma can not make it.
