The Catwalk: Week 9’s Best and Worst Uniforms

Lilly Donahue | Indiana University

What a week! Upsets were everywhere, and now only 5 teams still have that pretty lil goose egg in their loss column. As an IUFB fan, I say boot Michigan out of the playoff in favor of PJ Fleck and his increasingly rapidly rowing boat, but that’s just me. Let’s take a look at this week’s best and worst uniforms, Obama edition! This week’s uniforms with be rated out of Obama Supreme Shirts (good) or Obama Mom Jeans (obviously bad). Let’s get it goin’

The Best

Utah Shiny Hats

This week, College Gameday traveled to Salt Lake City for the Utah-Washington matchup , and nobody was disappointed! The Utes donned some sharp red jerseys with mountain accents along with an awesome-looking black matte helmet that features a chrome block U. A good look that almost led to an upset…

Oklahoma State Fauxbacks

OSU took on West Virginia and ruined their run at a perfect season, while also basically eliminating the Big 12 from the CFB playoff picture. They did so in some simple throwback helmets that also paid tribute to the victims of the OkSt plane crash a few years ago. A nice lookin’ uni and a great gesture

Arizona State Desert Chrome

Usually when adidas creates a uniform for ASU that includes the word desert in the title, it’s gonna be ugly. But this time, they managed to make a helmet in such a unique color that I couldn’t force myself to hate it, and the longer I looked at it, the more I started to like it. This is one of those unis that has a mirage effect, where the whole uniform itself isn’t all that great, but something about it just mystifies you.

The Fugly

PuRude Toiletmakers

As an IU fan, I am always open to roasting Purdue, and they gave me the perfect opportunity this week. The Boilermakers came out against Penn State (best uniforms IMO) in these horrific all-grey unis that had awkward black coloring on the shoulder. Yuck. I guess Purdue wanted their uniforms to reflect not only their football team’s ability, but also their ugly-ass campus. You visit Bloomington and compare it with the dumpster fire that is West Lafayette, then get back to me.

OreGag

Oregon has had some pretty wild uniforms over time, but usually they still look pretty good. Not in this episode! These uniforms look like Phil Knight gave a baby a tube of food coloring and just said “Have at it”. What is all over the shoulders? Did the equipment staff put each jersey under a tire and let them get run over, since that’s how the Duck’s season is going? Oregon: Green and yellow throwbacks. Make them permanent. Please.

4.5/5 Obama Mom Jeans

Iowa Hate

Iowa State, in a classic effort to attract recruits, elected to toss an alternate jersey into their lineup. Boy, was that a mistake. They decided to wear their normal uni, but with a hideous dark gray jersey. This might look okay for a school like TCU, whose colors match, but not for ISU’s scarlet and yellow. It looks like someone squirted mustard and ketchup on asphalt. Blech.
