The second CFP Rankings of 2019 were just released and all is finally right with the world.
Top Four
After their dismantling of Alabama last weekend, LSU is holding down the top spot. Did anyone not see this coming? LSU is the most deserving team and they’re finally getting the full credit that they deserve. They have far and away looked like the best team in the country and Joe Burrow is well on his way to a Heisman Trophy. No complaints coming from the top spot.
Sitting at number two is Ohio State. Again no complaints here. They were number one last week and very well could be the best team in the country. They’ve yet to play Penn State or Michigan, but those games will tell what we need to know about the Buckeyes.
After being snubbed from the top four last week, Dabo Swinney and Clemson are back in the playoff picture. It doesn’t matter who they’ve played this year or how they’ve won, all that matters is that they’re still the reigning CFP Champions and they’ve won 25 straight games. Despite their struggles, this is a team that no one wants to see in January. Unless they trip themselves up along the way, they won’t be leaving the top four anytime soon.
Coming in at four is Georgia. This one is interesting. There are a lot of teams that could argue for this spot but for now, it’s being held by the Bulldogs. It’s hard to put them here over Alabama when their best win is against Florida but they have the meat of their schedule coming up and they’ll be able to prove their worth.
Next Man Up
If you haven’t figured it out by now, Alabama isn’t in the top four. Will this be the year that the Tide are finally left out of the playoff? Or will they inevitably be given a spot to snub another well-deserving team?
Finally some PAC-12 representation. Oregon comes in at the sixth spot and it’s hard to see the committee giving the Duck’s any love unless they get a lot of help going forward. The Ducks are one of the country’s most fun teams and if they can somehow get in they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.
Other Notable Storylines
Undefeated Minnesota comes in at number eight after their upset of #4 Penn State.
