The former Cincinnati Bengals great Chad Johnson, has a workout on Monday to attempt to be an XFL kicker. Ocho had posted on his social media that he was working towards trying to kick professionally a few months ago. It now appears that this opportunity has arisen as he has a workout scheduled at XFL training camp next week.
Johnson has expressed interest in pursuing a career kicking before. His ultimate goal is to kick in the NFL, but for right now, the XFL is the first step. Chad Johnson attempted a PAT and performed a kickoff during the preseason in 2009.
The former All-Pro wide receiver caught 766 passes for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns in his 11 year career for the Bengals and Patriots. Ochocinco has always be known as an interesting guy, from changing his name to his end-zone celebrations. In recent years, Johnson has become well-known for being a great FIFA player and challenging fans across the country to beat him.
One of my favorite football players of all-time, I hope that someone gives Johnson a shot. This is a win-win situation as Ochocinco will bring more eyes to the XFL while also attempting to reach the NFL. It will be interesting to see if his kicking skills are good enough to compete, but I do hope that he gets a contract.
