Chase Young was the most dominating force off the LOS last season for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He will now bring that talent to the NFL as he enters the draft.
Strengths:
Young is just a rare athletic specimen. He has the combination of length, size, speed, and strength that almost make him unblockable.
Young saw his numbers decline late in the season. He went without a sack in the last three games of the season, after breaking the Ohio State single-season sack record with 16.5 in just nine games. I wonder why…….
Young is also incredibly smooth off the line. Which helps him beat tackles off the snap of the ball. He does not have a real noticeable pass rush move, except having quick feet, fast hands, and brute strength.
If you can’t tell, Young one of the best pass-rushing prospects we have seen in recent memory.
Weaknesses:
I’m going to be very honest here, Young does not have many weaknesses. You really need to be critical to find a weakness. Im going to try my best to find any weaknesses that jump off on the tape.
- Would love to see Young establish an elite pass-rush move
- According to some, he has below-average ball awareness (I guess?)
- Will disappear on the score sheet if double/triple teamed (which is a good and bad thing)
These are my findings. As I said, you have to be supercritical to find any glaring weakness.
Player Comparison: Julius Peppers
They are both known for their speed and strength off the edge. Peppers is going to be a HOFer and this may be setting the bar high for Young, However, Young is that special of a player.
NFL Draft Prediction: Round 1, Pick 2: Redskins
Do not overthink this. Chase Young, like his former Buckeye teammate Nick Bosa, would be the number one overall pick if it wasn’t for a surprise emergence of a Heisman QB.
