July 14 2020- The Chiefs are back giving out an extension just 8 days after extending Mahomes to the largest contract in sports history. The deadline to extend this year’s franchise tagged players is July 15th. Both parties beat the buzzer with less than 24 hours to go. Chris Jones got slapped with the franchise tag back in February, shortly after the Super Bowl celebration. Chris Jones agreed to a 4 year deal worth $85 million with up to $60 million guaranteed.

The Chiefs are coming off a championship and are looking to keep the core of their 2019 squad together.

“If it ain’t broke don’t fix it?”

Is a quote that is becoming a reality within Kansas City as they are set to have 20 of 22 starters return from 2019 . Anyone would want 20/22 starters back from the previous championship team, right? I think that Patrick Mahomes would agree (via Twitter):

The newly extended defensive tackle didn’t shy away from suggesting his team is constructing a dynasty (Via Twitter):

Another move like this makes it easy to notice that Kansas City is locked in on building the next great dynasty. Only time will tell how dominant the Chiefs can remain.
