Chris Mullin Steps Down at St. John’s

After making the NCAA Tournament with his alma mater, Chris Mullin has officially stepped down as head coach of St. John’s basketball. Mullins caps a four year career with the Red Storm, finishing with a 59-73 record, including a lone NCAA Tournament appearance this season.

Mullin, easily the best player in St. John’s history, failed to reach a .500 record in his first three seasons, before leading the Red Storm to a 21-13 record this year.

Early reports have indicated that athletic director Mike Cragg will target Arizona State head coach Bobby Hurley, whose team eliminated St. John’s in a First Four game last month.

A New York Post report claims that Rick Pitino has reached out to the athletic department to indicate his interest in the opening. Pitino is currently coaching in Greece.
