Christian Darrisaw is a lock in the first round. He has the prototypical size and power to be a great player in the league. He was a three-year starter at Virginia Tech, which gives him the experience that not a lot of other guys in this draft have.
Strengths
Darrisaw is a really good run blocker from the tackle position. He moves defensive lineman when down blocking. His ability to get up to the second level is impressive. His pass blocking footwork is one of his bigger strengths. One thing that stands out is his cut blocks. He is able to take out one, sometimes two defenders with it. He’s a cold-blooded competitor. You won’t ever see him give in to the competitive pressures on the field.
Weaknesses
Darrisaw will sometimes get heavy feet on his pass sets, which allows faster edge rushers a lane to the quarterback. He doesn’t have that killer instinct to finish off defenders he’s blocking. He does tend to have a couple of plays in a row where he doesn’t give 110%.
Scheme Fit: Play Action offense
Darrisaw isn’t great at zone blocking but is great at moving people in the power run game. He’ll do it on double teams and solo blocking assignments. It also will help his pass sets if the edge guesses run before becoming a pass rusher.
Player Comparison: Russell Okung
They essentially play the tackle spot the same way. Both are very good pass blockers and good enough run blockers. They’re also both similar sizes with Okung being one inch taller.
Draft Prediction: Los Angeles Chargers (1/13)
The Chargers need help along the line and Darrisaw gives them a day one starter to protect Justin Herbert.
