Battle at the Barclays Center: Virginia Tech vs. UNC, 8:30 CT Tip-Off
Don’t worry everybody, if you listened to the podcast that came out this week featuring the BMOC Jeff Nadu, I will make sure to have the lucky hoodie on tonight! The MACtion total did not get us there but we are still doing well overall. I will make this play short and sweet.. Tonight’s match-up features an underdog in the ACC that has potential to win the entire conference.
The Matchup
The Virginia Tech Hokies are getting hot at the right time, reeling off 2 straight victories in this tournament, including a last second buzzer beater over Clemson and a very efficient offensive performance over Notre Dame. Led by Senior Forward Keve Aluma (15.6 ppg), this Hokies attack is starting to finally round into form and are becoming a serious threat to win this conference tournament. The North Carolina Tar Heels, fresh off a 20-point beatdown over Virginia, have proven they can still be a force in the ACC, finishing off Coach K’s regular season farewell tour with a 13-point win in his own home. Winners of 6 straight, this Heels attack is gaining some serious momentum heading into the tournament and they are all but guaranteed a spot in the dance.
The Play
Naturally, with The Heels in great position to make the tournament already. Meanwhile, Virginia Tech has some motivation to boost their resume with a win tonight, so you would think I’d be taking the points with The Hokies. While I don’t disagree with that pick, I am ONCE AGAIN looking to a total tonight. Virginia Tech has hit 2 straight overs in this tournament, while UNC has really stepped up their tempo and offensive efficiency of late. I really like how comfortable VT looks in the Barclays Center and think UNC will have no problem trading buckets with The Hokies. The total has dropped from 142.5 to 140 today, so there is some money coming in on the under. I don’t mind that because I think this total has more than enough room to go over.
