If College Football Had Trades…NCAA, Are You Listening?

The NCAA has been pissing off a lot of programs and fans as of late. Investigation after investigation, penalty after penalty, whatever the case may be, there is no arguing they are on many people’s shit list.

Take Detroit Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy for example. He was all up in arms over the recent FBI investigation into the corruption of college basketball. Gundy even called the NCAA; “The NCAA is one of the worst organizations — maybe the worst organization — in sports,” according to ESPN.com

As I covered in one of my previous articles, Notre Dame is not too fucking happy with the NCAA themselves. Of course, no one has ever forgotten the NCAA taking away their glorious video games back in 2013.

Taking all this into consideration, the NCAA could certainly use a bounce back. What better way to go about that than by completely changing the landscape of a sport. Therefore, the NCAA should consider allowing trades in college football.

A recent article on ESPN.com discusses the possibility of trades in college football and it brings up some valid points. First, there are not many other things in the entire world more dramatic than a trade deadline. The NBA and Cleveland Cavaliers sure know that. And the NCAA sure knows drama. The article does also mention that likelihood of this happening is next to impossible. Which is just all the more reason for the NCAA to consider this.

Some possible trades could include Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts going to a team like UCLA to play for Chip Kelly. Perhaps Hurts would fit better into their system, plus how could UCLA turn away an experienced quarterback, something they could really use for this upcoming season.

Also, my boys at Notre Dame could use some experienced Offensive lineman this season after losing Quenton Nelson and Mike McGlinchey. Perhaps Georgia, who has had 10 offensive linemen join the program in their last two recruiting classes, could spare someone. I certainly would not complain if the Bulldogs’ sophomore tackle Andrew Thomas joined the Fighting Irish.

For the fans, this would either be something they really like or really hate. But if there’s one thing the NCAA doesn’t care about (besides the players) it’s the fans!

There is no doubt what an absolute circus this would be if it were to take place. Just imagine a team, on the bubble of making the Playoff. The one thing the team is missing is that dominating pass rusher on the defensive line, and they make a trade to get him.

Imagine what that’d be like for the players, having to bounce from campus to campus. It’d definitely shake up the recruiting process quite a bit, too, something the NCAA may be interested in.
