College GameDay is Finally Going to Pullman, Washington

Folks, it’s finally happening. ESPN decided “Hm, next week’s games aren’t all that strong. NC State vs Clemson…meh. Maryland-Iowa? Yawn. Miss State and LSU? Hard pass. Michigan State vs Michigan? NOPE.”

Enter Washington State and Oregon. Oregon has been the top dog of the Pac-12, when we all predicted Stanford or Washington, myself included. You know Week 8 was Blood Week when the top two teams in the Pac-12 is Oregon at 5-1….and Colorado at 5-1. Yeah, that Colorado. But anyways, back to Gameday. Wazzou hasn’t always been a powerhouse of a team, with them lacking huge ratings and big name players. So, when it comes to ESPN to pick a game for College Gameday, they usually pass up on Wazzou (and the Pac-12 as a whole).

BUT GOD DAMMIT, ESPN MADE A GOOD CHOICE FOR ONCE. GAMEDAY IS HEADING TO THE #WESTCOASTMEDIOCORECOAST, AND I’M LIKE A KID ON CHRISTMAS. OL’ CRIMSON IS GONNA GET ITS TIME TO SHINE. Gameday is coming to Pullman and the college football world couldn’t be more excited…

Yes, the team who’s flag has appeared on Gameday 200+ times in the background waving proudly like a Mike Leach joke is getting a shot at primetime. And Kirk Herbstreit, yeah the guy you probably hate for ranking your team too low, has been pushing for Gameday to head up to the Northwest for years:

“The big one would be Washington State, just because they’ve had this flag traveling around for years,” he said. “They were one of the first flags we ever — now we have thousands of flags and signs — but they were one of the first flags we ever had. To be a random Washington State flag, out behind us; their team wasn’t even playing at the GameDay that we might be at, and that thing traveled around the country, and it still travels around the country for years.”

As one of the only Pac-12 guys at our website and a HUGE Pac-12 fan, I couldn’t be more excited to see this. Being on the west coast can be downright shitty for college football. 9am kickoffs, blackout games so you can watch San Jose State play UC Davis, and having to wait till 7pm to watch your team to play can be miserable.

HOWEVER, we now get to watch WSU vs Oregon in “Pac12AfterDark” aka 4:30pm PST, but this is a huge win for all Pac-12 fans around the nation. So, when you wake up next Saturday and see how the West Coast shows out, please, embrace it because it will probably be the only Gameday we will have for the next 10 years.
