Ladies and Gentlemen, we are getting to the end of college hockey

The NCAA Hockey tournament is on the horizon and with it comes the Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minnesota. College hockey has been full of surprises this year, with St. Cloud State coming out of nowhere, Boston University dropping off the map, and Notre Dame absolutely dominating the B1G. A few things to look forward to this upcoming weekend is the end of the regular season in a lot of conferences.

The NCHC is on Top of College Hockey

With a #1 St. Cloud State vs. #3 Denver for the Penrose Cup, it’s hard to deny. Not only does the conference have two of the best teams in the country, but depth and individual talent. If St. Cloud wins a game they take it, but if Denver can shutout St. Cloud they win. This is the stuff college hockey is made of. Every kid on the ice will be skating for the glory of holding the trophy of the best conference in the country. Expect a great competition in mid-Minnesota this weekend.

The State of Hockey is Proving They are Capable.

The self-proclaimed “State of Hockey,” Minnesota, is often associated with the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities when talking about college hockey. This year, that is not the case, with St. Cloud State Huskies leading the nation, followed by Minnesota State Mankato ranked #4. The U of Minnesota comes in a weak #8 just barely ahead of Minnesota Duluth at #9. Yes, four of the five D1 hockey programs in Minnesota are in the top 10 of the national rankings. It just so happens the Frozen Four is in the state’s capital this year, too. Expect some great things from those teams since they will want to win it close to home. Duluth’s last national championship was in St. Paul in 2011, so maybe the city is good luck for that program.
