So we are back again with the greatest idea on the planet. It’s mine so if you use it I will sue you. Nonetheless it is time to update our candidates and how they are doing and introduce a new candidate.

Jeffery Simmons, DT, Mississippi State

Simmons continues to be magnificent. After three games Simmons has made the PFF All-SEC Defensive team several times. Had a very strong second half against Kansas State in week two that included 2 TFL and a pressure that lead to an interception. He isn’t filling up the stat sheet per se, but you put on the film and you know the kind of impact that he has. And as you know I am a film guy first.

Week 3 Stats: 3 Assists

Season Stats: 11 Tackles, 7 Solo, 4 Assists, 5.5 TFL

Ed Oliver, DT, Houston

Oliver hasn’t been able to put up those monster numbers that he posted in week one, but still as productive as it gets. Oliver was the only bright spot from Houston’s lackluster performance defensively against Texas Tech last weekend. Posting six tackles and one TFL. Also getting a 90.2 grade according to PFF. Neither him or Simmons has posted a sack thus far, which is interesting to say the least. That should change soon however.

Week 3 Stats: 6 Tackles, 4 Solo, 2 Assists, 1 TFL

Season Stats: 24 Tackles, 12 Solo, 12 Assists, 5 TFL, 1 PD

Nick Bosa, DE, Ohio State

Bosa continues to play at an elite level. He has recorded at least one sack in all three games thus far and his hype train to go first overall in this years draft is not slowing down. As I am writing this he just had surgery and currently has no timetable to return. If it is a long recovery, this could be the last we see of him in this series.

Week 3 Stats: 5 Tackles, 4 Solo, 1 Assist, 1 TFL, 1 Sack, 1 FF

Season Stats: 14 Tackles, 11 Solo, 3 Assists, 6 TFL, 4 Sacks, 1 FF, 2 FR, 1 TD

Devin Bush, LB, Michigan

Bush definitely showed his versatility against SMU as he had no missed tackles, had pressured the QB several times, and only allowed 6 yards in coverage. Overall he seems to be the walking version of a swiss army knife as he does a little of everything.

Week 3 Stats: 7 Tackles, 5 Solo, 2 Assists, 1 TFL

Season Stats: 18 Tackles, 11 Solo, 7 Assists, 2 TFL, 1 Sack

Greedy Williams, CB, LSU

Probably the best playmaker among defensive backs. Watching him against Auburn was pretty interesting. He got beat once on a back shoulder throw and the next two times that throw was made he broke it up and intercepted the other. Just a reminder that this guy is only a true sophomore and he is a top candidate for best corner in college football.

Season Stats: 6 Tackles, 5 Solo, 1 Assist, 1 PD, 2 INT

Dakota Allen, LB, Texas Tech

That’s right folks, Last Chance U star is definitely making the most of his second stint at Texas Tech. After being away for the 2016 season Allen has made a splash back into relevance. Don’t get me wrong he had a great year last year posting 100+ tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 INTs. However, he is a senior and he is putting on a show to secure a home in the NFL.
