July 15th 2020- Derrick Henry was the next big named franchise tagged player, next to Dak Prescott and Chris Jones. The two parties were able to agree to a 4 year extension worth $50 million before the 4pm(EST.) deadline. Henry is coming off his best season as a pro, so it is no surprise to see the Titans did everything they could to make an extension possible.
Last season Henry led the NFL in rushing (1,540 yards), rushing touchdowns (16 tds T-1st). 2019 also saw Derrick Henry earn his first Pro Bowl selection and his first All Pro award (2nd team).
Henry’s punishing run style paid dividends in the 2019 postseason. In the postseason the Titans’ running-back guided Tennessee to back to back upsets in New England and the no.1 seeded Ravens. Derrick was able to run for the most yards in a playoff game in franchise history, 182 yards, against New England. Then was able to beat his own record the next week in Baltimore (195 yards).
Since entering the league in 2016 as a 2nd round draft choice, he’s gotten better every year, by being able to consistently top his previous seasons’ rushing yards from 2016-2019.
