Did Joe Burrow Just Have the Greatest Season of All-Time?

Joe Burrow Champion

Joe Burrow may have just had the best season of all-time. This is not an exaggeration. Upon winning the national championship on Monday, Burrow completed an undefeated season to achieve the ultimate team goal. Burrow also achieved almost every personal goal you could on the way.

Passing Stats

The most notorious record set by Burrow was when he set the record for passing touchdowns in a season during the National Championship game. Burrow’s 60th passing touchdown of the season is more than anyone in history, passing Colt Brennan’s 58 touchdown season in 2007. Add five rushing touchdowns and 65 touchdowns in a season is just unmatched.

Joe Burrow also set the record for passing efficiency rating at mark of 202. Tua Tagovailoa would have been higher this season, but did not play enough games to qualify. The previous mark was set by Tua last year at 199.4.

Burrow’s 76.3% completion percentage was the second best of all time, trailing only Colt McCoy, who he was ahead of going into Monday. He also finished tied for third all-time in passing yards in a season. Burrow also set the record for most total yards in a National Championship game, as well as the most touchdowns in a National Championship game, with 521 yards and six total touchdowns.

Awards

Of course the main award was the Heisman, but there is more than that. Joe Burrow won the AP Player of the Year, Davey O’Brien Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Maxwell Award, SEC Offensive Player of the Year, and Walter Camp Player of the Year. Burrow cleaned shop and took home virtually every award he could have.

Champion

Oh yeah, and did we forget that he is the only QB in history to start in 15 wins? Burrow became a different many in 2019 and led LSU to the promised land. Wins are not a QB stat, but in this case, I think you could make an exception.

Burrow set multiple records, won seven different awards, won 15 games, and won an National Championship. I don’t think you can do much more than that, but the future number one overall pick will attempt to achieve more of the same in the pros.
