Former Ravens star safety Earl Thomas was sent home from Thursday’s practice following a fight with position-mate Chuck Clark. When the Ravens returned for practice on Friday Thomas was no where to be found.
Following the absence from Friday’s practice, the “leaders” on the Ravens made it clear to decision makers that they prefer Earl Thomas off the team. Today, the team has also terminated his contract and will be a free agent.
On Sunday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter predicted that the Ravens were planning to release or trade the star safety. The Ravens came out with the following statement:
Earl Thomas ended up only playing one season for the Baltimore Ravens but did find success in that lone season. In 2019 the Ravens secured the No.1 seed in the AFC and Thomas was selected to the Pro Bowl.
The decision to release Thomas may also stem from a situation in May which saw his wife point a gun to his head. The Ravens want as little distraction as possible, just like any team but this team is a serious title contender and can’t afford to have situations that Earl has been igniting recently.
Potential Suitors
The favorite to sign Earl Thomas is of course the Dallas Cowboys. A team in which he has expressed a lot of interest with in the past. Another two teams to look out for are the Texans and 49ers.
On the field, Earl Thomas will be a solid addition for any team that signs him. He just needs to stay away from trouble and learn from his rollercoaster 2020 offseason.
