On Friday an Ole Miss legend, Eli Manning, announced his retirement from the NFL. Manning’s lasting legacy will be his two Super Bowl victories over the New England Patriots, but he will have a spot in Ole Miss lore as well. One of the most successful passers in Ole Miss history, Manning is the Rebels’ all-time leader in both passing yards and touchdowns.
Eli Manning is going to be remembered at Ole Miss, especially because of his 2003 Cotton Bowl win. Eli was 22-31 for 259 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in a 31-28 victory over Oklahoma State. Manning accumulated 10,119 yards and 81 touchdowns at Ole Miss. Add that to his 57,023 yards and 366 touchdowns in the league and that’s a hell of a two decade stretch.
The debate right now is whether Eli Manning will be an NFL Hall of Famer. While possibly not being the most deserving of all-time, I do believe that he will get in. Manning’s legacy with two Super Bowls, being an Iron Man for the Giants, and being the best QB in Ole Miss history is an impressive way to follow in your family’s footsteps.
