Emory Jones Flips From Ohio State, Signs With Florida

Emory Jones kicked off Early Signing Day with a bang. Jones was one of the first of the day, and he did not disappoint. The 4-star dual-threat QB announced around 10:30 CT that he will be flipping his commitment and signing with the Florida Gators. Jones has been committed to Ohio State since September 30, 2017. Apparently the Buckeyes staff was upset with Jones making visits to other schools and not shutting down his recruitment entirely. Since then, OSU recruited other QB’s and even gained a commitment from 3-star Matthew Baldwin. Jones was committed to OSU all the way until signing day, but announced at the ceremony he would be taking his talents to the SEC.

Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators had a commitment from Matt Corral, but the California native switched to Ole Miss last week. Since then, Dan Mullen has been all over Emory Jones. Florida had expressed interest in Jones all along, and Jones had interest as well. Dan Mullen and Emory Jones have a close connection. Mullen was the first SEC coach to offer the Heard County standout in his freshman year. Once Mullen got the UF job, the recruitment opened back up. In the last week, the Crystal Ball predictions on 247 Sports flipped to a 76% chance that Jones landed in Gainsville.

The Mullen era is off to a hot start. Emory Jones will bring a special aspect to Florida’s offense with his great athleticism and passing ability. As a result of the poor QB play this season, I see Jones enrolling early and competing for a starting position. The Florida Gator faithful have a lot to be excited about.
