I think that I speak for all NFL fans when I say that this offseason has been RIDICULOUS. We witnessed established quarterbacks find new homes, legends retire (then un-retire), and saw the trajectory of multiple franchises altered (for better or worse). In the hopes of recapping the madness in organized fashion.. Here are the top additions that each AFC team has made this offseason
AFC East
Buffalo Bills 2022 Offseason Move
OG Rodger Saffold, signed to a 1 year 6.25 million dollar deal: While the addition of Von Miller was a massive one for the Bills, bringing in Rodger Saffold was a big time move. The 33 year old mauler in the trenches is coming off his first Pro Bowl season where he helped pave the way for the Titans to rush for 2,404 total team yards. Saffold also allowed only two sacks and committed just five penalties on 853 snaps in 2021 as the Titans premier guard. The Indiana alum will do a great job keeping Allen upright and creating holes for Bills backs.
Miami Dolphins 2022 Offseason Move
WR Tyreek Hill, acquired through trade for 5 draft picks with Kansas City: Traditionally I show bias to offensive lineman, but I can’t even put the Terron Armstead signing over the addition of Tyreek Hill. Hill’s dynamic speed paired with his elite route running makes him an optimal weapon for Tagovailoa. Definitely one of the biggest moves of the offseason.
New England Patriots 2022 Offseason Move
The New England Patriots signed S Jabrill Peppers, to a 1 year, 2 million dollar deal: The Patriots really didn’t do anything this offseason, but signing Peppers was a great value move. This signing is low risk high reward. Peppers has been banged up the past few years, but makes plays when he’s on the field. The Michigan alum can learn from Devin McCourty and work great in the Pats defense as a down safety/outside linebacker.
New York Jets 2022 Offseason Move
OG Laken Tomlinson, signed to a 3 year, 40 million dollar deal: The Jets adding Tomlinson was an underrated signing of free agency. Tomlinson played 1,094 snaps for the 49ers and only allowed 2 sacks and 5 penalties. He’s proficient in both the pass and run game and will help to protect their young quarterback, Zach Wilson. This signing also gives the Jets a little more leeway with the 4th and 10th overall pick. They can look to take an edge rusher and defensive back instead of offensive line.
AFC North
Pittsburgh Steelers 2022 Offseason Move
QB Mitch Trubisky, signed to a 2 year, 14.25 million dollar deal: While Trubisky won’t solve all of Pittsburghs issues at quarterback, it’s a step in the right direction. If the Steelers draft a quarterback then he’ll be able to compete with Trubisky immediately; and if they don’t then he’s capable enough to win Pittsburgh some games.
Baltimore Ravens 2022 Offseason Move
Saftey, Marcus Williams, signed to a 5 year, 70 million dollar deal: Williams made 2 interceptions and 74 tackles last season making him the perfect eye-in-the-sky for the Ravens. Safety’s been a rough position for Baltimore since letting go of Earl Thomas and Williams is a big time upgrade from Chuck Clark.
Cincinnati Bengals 2022 Offseason Move
OG/C Ted Karras, signed to a 3 year, 18 million dollar deal: Signing Cappa and Collins was big, but Karras is the most important signing. He can play all three interior offensive line positions and posted a PFF grade of 72.8 while allowing 3 sacks for the Patriots. Joe Burrow won’t have to run for his life any longer.
Cleveland Browns 2022 Offseason Move
WR Amari Cooper, acquired through trade for 2 draft picks with Dallas: The Watson trade is huge, but we don’t know if he’ll be suspended or not so the Cooper trade is the most effective one as of right now. Cooper has 5 seasons over 1,000 yards and will be a sweet number one in Cleveland. Getting the ball in his hands will lead to the Browns success
AFC South
Jacksonville Jaguars 2022 Offseason Move
G Brandon Scherff, signed to a 3 year, 49.5 million dollar deal: Jacksonville has lacked good offensive line play for years and now they add one of the NFLs top run blockers to the mix. Scherff allowed no sacks on 697 stats in 2021 and was named to the Pro Bowl. Trevor Lawrence can finally breathe.
Indianapolis Colts 2022 Offseason Move
Indianapolis Colts, QB Matt Ryan, acquired through trade for 1 draft pick with Atlanta: Out with the old and in with the older. After shipping Wentz to Washington, Indianapolis was in dire need of a quarterback and they found their guy in Matty Ice. Ryan is the best option the Colts have had since Andrew Luck and hopefully Indy can get two plus years out of him.
Houston Texans 2022 Offseason Move
WR DaeSean Hamilton, signed to a 1 year, 1 million dollar deal: Houston made a lot of moves this offseason, but no additions that really stick out. Hamilton is probably the teams best value signing and will be a serviceable number two option next to Cooks.
Tennessee Titans 2022 Offseason Move
OLB Harold Landry, re-signed to a 5 year, 87.5 million dollar deal: I was convinced that Landry was gone to Atlanta or Detroit, but Tennessee made sure to keep him around. Landry is coming off his best season as he tallied 12 sacks and 75 tackles. Keeping him in Nashville was important and will be key in Tennessees success in 2022.
AFC West
Las Vegas Raiders 2022 Offseason Move
WR Davante Adams, acquired through trade for 2 draft picks with Green Bay: The AFC West made the biggest moves of the offseason and the Raiders were at the top. They extended Maxx Crosby, signed Chandler Jones, and traded for Rock Ya-Sin; but no deal was bigger than reuniting Derek Carr with his college sweetheart Davante Adams. Adams is the leagues best pass catcher and immediately makes Vegas a playoff front runner.
Denver Broncos 2022 Offseason Move
QB Russell Wilson, acquired through trade for Noah Fant, Drew Lock, Shelby Harris, and 5 draft picks with Seattle: There’s not much to say. Denvers been without a franchise quarterback since Peyton Manning in 2015 and now they have their man. Wilson has experience, is dynamic, and will thrive with the great weapons in Mile High like Jerry Jeudy, Javonte Williams, and Cortland Sutton.
Los Angeles Chargers 2022 Offseason Move
OLB Khalil Mack, acquired through trade for 2 draft picks with Chicago: Mack and Bosa on opposite sides of each other is absolutely terrifying. This duo has combined for 33 sacks over the past 2 seasons and now with them on the same defensive line, their play is only going to elevate.
Kansas City Chiefs 2022 Offseason Move
Kansas City Chiefs, OT Orlando Brown, received franchise tag: Kansas City lost more than they gained this offseason and while they did sign MVS and Juju, keeping Orlando Brown around for another season is HUGE. Brown allowed 4 sacks last year and making sure he’s protecting Mahomes in 2022 is important. The AFC West added more big time pass rushers and it could be a bad day if Mahomes doesn’t have a solid left tackle.
