Georgina Corrick and Softball: A Lifetime Partnership

Georgina Corrick established herself as one of the best collegiate softball players ever at the University of South Florida. She won Softball America Pitcher of the Year in her senior year, pitching an astonishing 274.1 innings with a minuscule 0.51 ERA. Opposing batters hit .159 against Corrick in 2022. Her talent is something that coaches dream of acquiring and young players dream of reaching one day.

Corrick faced a lot of pressure at a young age. She was already committed to South Florida before entering high school and was getting noticed.

“A lot of people would be like ‘oh she’s committed, she’s the USF commit. She’s this, she’s that.’ Without me really being able to decide who I was,” Corrick said.

Softball Brings Out Personality

Softball became a sort of escape for Corrick. Her relaxed nature showed throughout the interview. Just talking about softball brought a smile to her face.

“I think that’s what I’ve enjoyed most about pitching. I was not very outgoing [before],” Corrick said.

She’s been awarded numerous accolades and will go down as one of the best pitchers in collegiate history. But what really makes softball special for her is the joy of pitching.

“The more I got into pitching and the more I enjoyed it, the more I really got more confident in my personality and got confident in my ability,” Corrick said.

A new chapter

After flat-out dominating during her collegiate career and breaking records at USF along the way, the time came for her to move beyond the collegiate level. Corrick knew she wanted to keep playing. After college, she signed with a professional fastpitch league called Athletes Unlimited, a new journey that has continued her love for the game.

“It’s been one of the coolest experiences in my life, honestly,” Corrick said. “I get really excited talking about it just because it is so incredible.”

Athletes Unlimited is run by both women and athletes, something not often found in many current sports leagues. Corrick went on to describe the differences and similarities between baseball and softball, using various sports icons as examples.

“Obviously, there’s similarities. But that’s like getting mad at Michael Phelps that he’s not a good rower because he doesn’t row very quickly in the water,” Corrick said.

Georgina Corrick will go down as one of the most dominant pitchers in AAC history with all of her accolades and numbers. However, nothing compares to the joy she gets from competing. Her career is far from over as she gets to play with Athletes Unlimited, a journey that she says is “a fairytale ending.”
