Well, folks, it’s been a pretty wild college hoops season thus far and January did not fail to live up to that hype. Whether you watched upwards of 30 games this past month or just a few, I’m here to give you a recap of January in College Hoops, GIF style.
WHO’S HOT
Arizona Wildcats. Plenty of teams had “good” months, but Arizona was outstanding. They went 8-0 in January with a big win over UCLA. Riding a 14 game win streak, the only thing hotter than Arizona hoops is Margot Robbie in The Wolf of Wall Street.

Marcus Keene, Central Michigan University. As if his 30 PPG average on the season wasn’t enough, he dropped FIFTY POINTS against Miami(Oh.) on January 21st. Marcus Keene, you can be my beer pong partner whenever you want.
Gonzaga Bulldogs. I get that they don’t play the strongest schedule, but they are undefeated through and have been downright embarrassing teams lately. If they can keep dominating teams they will be a definite #1 seed in March.
WHO’S NOT
Minnesota Golden Gophers. Can you believe this team was 15-2 and atop the Big Ten standings on January 10th? Since then the Gophers are 0-5. They are as cold as my Yeti cooler on gameday.
Oregon State Beavers. Okay, I know they have been awful all year, but they did not muster a single win in January. Pretty wild to think this team was a #7 seed in the tournament just last year.
Michigan State Spartans. Yep, I’m calling out my own school. MSU was ranked #12 in the AP Preseason Poll, but their season has been about as inconsistent as it gets. If Tom Izzo & Co. don’t get it together, it could be a rough March Madness.
OTHER COOL STUFF FROM THIS MONTH
Oregon’s Dillon Brooks with the flop of the century. Talk about selling a foul! He promptly made Sportscenter’s NOT Top 10 the following week, and is the winner of my “flop of the century” award. Luckily, Dillon Brooks is an elite player and will win plenty more awards or else this would be his claim to fame for the rest of his career.
Ted Cruz with arguably the best tweet of the College Hoops season. And yes, it’s real. If you haven’t noticed by now, Senator Ted Cruz and Duke standout Grayson Allen are basically twins, and even Cruz likes to joke around about it.
Enjoy this NASTY ally-oop to MSU’s Miles Bridges earlier this month. Holy shhhmokes! I have a 100% bias on this one, but Miles Bridges’ dunking ability is the best in the Big Ten and maybe the best in the country. I haven’t seen an ally-oop like this since my Nerf mini-hoop growing up.
