An 11 AM tipoff is something that I wish every fanbase could experience throughout college hoops. Likewise, I wish that they would do a “Public School Day” like the IUPUI Jaguars did for Indianapolis Public Schools. In my year and a half of covering the Jags, this was far and away the best atmosphere that I’ve experienced.
The first half saw a tight contest in which the lead changed a number of times. When it felt like one team was going to go on a run, the other responded. While I wouldn’t call it a fundamentally sound game, it was up and down and the dunks were plentiful. Milwaukee went into the intermission leading 38-37. They were led by Elijah Jamison who had 9 points. IUPUI were led by Jlynn Carter, who was getting whatever he wanted, leading all scorers with 18 points.
The second half saw a ton of adjustments as the Panthers really cranked up the full court pressure, mixing it up between Man-2-Man and zone presses. The Jags seemed extremely uncomfortable with the pressure that the Panthers were laying on them. In the end, the Jaguars just had too many defensive lapses, missed missed block outs, and missed bunnies.
Final score: Milwaukee 72 IUPUI 69. The Panthers were led by Kentrell Pullian who had 12 points. Jlynn Carter for the Jags led the way with 22 points after cooling off and going for just 4 points in the second half. The Panthers had a balanced attack having 7 different players score 6 or more points.
It looks like it’ll be another winless Horizon League season for Matt Crenshaw and IUPUI.
