Jayhawks of the Midwestern: The Curse of the Bruce Pearl

Turns out that the Kansas Jayhawks losing the Big XII regular-season title for the first time in fourteen years wasn’t an elaborate rouse by Bill Self to catch the rest of the March Madness field off guard after all.

At the hands of Bruce Pearl’s Auburn Tigers, the season ended in the Round of 32 in blowout fashion, 89-75. Down 51-25 at halftime, it was never really close. Kansas attempted their best to close the gap, starting the second half 7/7 from the field. However, the Tigers shot 5/5 in that span, allowing The Jayhawks to shave ONE POINT off the deficit.

And that’s all she wrote. A largely disappointing finish to a less than satisfactory season, but the Jayhawks will be back next October with a chip on their shoulder. A long offseason to regenerate health and figure out a solid gameplan, Bill Self and Kansas will be alright; don’t worry about them.

For the fans, if your bracket isn’t completely busted, there’s plenty more basketball to grace our televisions. For those needing to drown their post hoops blues with some liquid therapy, it’s a Saturday night in a fantastic college town and Sandbar is bumpin’ tonight.

It’s been fun living and dying with every shot from the crimson and blue. Until next season, thanks for the wake up call.

*sidenote: Bruce Pearl is the WORST and I have no respect for that rat. (look up Deon Thomas)
