Jhivvan Jackson: Cold as Ice

Last night the Roadrunner men’s basketball team put the beat down on conference opponent Charlotte. From the tip-off, there was never really a doubt about this game.

JHIVVAN-STOPPABLE

Jhivvan “Ice-In-His-Veins” Jackson had a team leading 28 points consisting of 6 behind the arc. Jackson lit it up late in the first half and at one point had more points that the entire Charlotte roster. Jackson was as hot as the San Antonio asphalt in July. He had the eye of the tiger, the heart of a champion, the mamba mentality and every other sports adage in the book. As a fan, I have been critical of Jhivvan in the past but last night he shut up every hater he’s ever had. Whenever he shot, it seemed like the hoop was 9 feet wide, everything was just falling for the man. With the help of fellow offensive monster Keaton Wallace, who had 15 points, Jhivvan and the Runners steam rolled their opponent to the point where the band members wanted to get in on the action.

The bench had an impressive night as well. Considering the fact that the game basically decided in favor of the Runners before minute 12 came through in the second half, every man on the roster scored. Oklahoma City native, Idokye Iyaye had something of a coming out party last night with 12 points, 3 rebounds that all happened on the offensive side of the ball, and basically the whole second half played. Iyaye was an absolute unit on the court. Our star-boy Giovanni didn’t have as good a night scoring as he would have hoped for, but he played the second most minutes of the game. With three steals, three assists, and three rebounds The Stallion had a serious impact on the routing of the 49ers of Charlotte.

Running Forward

The Runners had a stretch, where the success of earlier this year seemed far in the past, but last night the boys in blue and orange looked like themselves again. Being that UTSA and three other teams are only a half a game behind conference leader ODU, I’m excited to see where we go from here.
