This season’s coaching carousel has been a crazy one. Schools all across the country are firing coaches, and fan bases are hoping their school lands the next Nick Saban. One of the jobs that opened up has all the ingredients for a coach to build a dynasty. At the same time, there is a successful coach that seems like he is ready for a new start somewhere else. This creates a perfect combination: Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M.
Jimbo Fisher has proven himself as a successful college football coach. In his first 7 years at Florida State, he has never lost more than 4 games. Between the years 2012-2014 he only lost 3 games total, and won the national title in 2013. Jimbo has an overall record of 83-23 in his time at FSU. This season has been a disaster for the Seminoles. They were ranked #3 in the preseason polls, but an injury to star QB Deondre Francois in their opener against Alabama sent the season in a spiral. Even if the Noles win against Louisiana-Monroe and become bowl eligible, this season still puts a bad spot on Jimbo Fisher’s resume. He is a much better coach than what his team has shown this season. I believe Fisher is ready for a new start elsewhere, and he may have found the perfect place.
Texas A&M is one of the best jobs in college football. It’s almost a dream scenario for any football coach. You’re in arguably the greatest recruiting area in the country, and you will definitely get paid what you’re worth. The facilities are some of the best in the entire country. The fan base is unbelievable. I don’t know what else anyone could ask for in a job. I heard from Clay Travis the other day that Texas A&M’s endowment is somewhere around 10 BILLION dollars. The support from the boosters is another reason this is such an amazing job. With Sumlin out in College Station, the Texas A&M job is one of the hottest on the market.
Could this be a deadly combination? Should the rest of the country be on high alert? To answer both, probably so. Jimbo Fisher has shown he knows how to recruit, so being in Texas can only make that easier. Texas has some of the best high school football in the country. You can drive 60 miles in any direction and find a super star. This is all it takes for Jimbo to get rolling. Once he gets recruits to College Station, it’s going to get interesting. According to reports, Jimbo Fisher is the top candidate for the job. I expect the contract to be signed any day, and there will be a new sheriff in Aggieland. Texas A&M has all the ingredients for success, so Jimbo Fisher could come in and create a dynasty at this school.
