Welcome to the first edition of “JJ’s Video Game Player of the Week.” Each week I will be selecting one player to talk about who put up crazy, video-game like stats.
There were a lot of power-five teams playing against schools that your average football fan probably hasn’t even heard of. So, as expected, there were a lot of blowouts this weekend. Because of this, there were plenty of great individual performances, as multiple quarterbacks threw for 5 touchdowns. But ultimately, one performance was greater than the rest.
Keytaon Thompson from Mississippi State scored 7 touchdowns this Saturday against SF Austin in their 63-6 win. He threw 5 touchdown passes and rushed for 2 more, racking up 473 total yards and 0 turnovers.
While this was a tremendous performance, the SF Austin defense is nothing compared to the SEC defenses Mississippi State will have to play this year. Playing such a smaller school is ultimately what led to Thompson doing literally whatever he wanted to on the field.
