“Last Chance U”…..Where are They Now?

Last Chance U…..if you haven’t seen the show, then you are clearly doing life wrong. Last Chance U is one of my all-time favorite shows BY FAR. It’s right up there with Friday Night Lights on a sports show basis, but it is also a fantastic documentary series. If you are one of the few people who hasn’t seen the show, I’ll give you a quick overview of what it’s about:

“Last Chance U” follows a group of young men training to become the future stars of the NFL, but first they have to get back to the higher levels college of college. Based at East Mississippi Community College (EMCC), it takes a journey to understand the real men of football at one of the most successful, but least known athletic programs. Each player has ridiculous talent and strives to be the best, but each face their own unique struggles either on or off the field. As their season takes an unexpected turn, the methods of this unusual team are deeply called into question. With much to lose, they are constantly reminded of the stakes.

So far there have been two seasons on Netflix, with the pressure mounting on the Lions in each of the seasons. If you ever find yourself after the seasons asking “where are the players now?” then you’re in luck.

Season 1

QB

John Franklin III was at Florida State before transferring to EMCC. He was long hyped as Auburn’s next star JUCO QB, (You might’ve heard of Cam Newton) but that didn’t work out. Franklin threw for 733 yards, 7 TDs and 2 INTs and rushed for 451 yards and 9 TDs in nine games at EMCC. Unfortunately, JF3 wasn’t happy playing quarterback at Auburn, so he decided to transfer to Florida Atlantic University and move to receiver. So far, through 3 games with the Owls, Franklin has caught four passes for 19 yards and rushed two times for 25 yards. He doesn’t get in a lot but when he does he looks to make the best of it!

QB

Wyatt Roberts left to attend Mississippi State as a regular student for some very odd reason. Dan Mullen invited him to walk on as a scout-teamer for the Bulldogs, which meant he would only participate at practices. Wyatt threw for 2197 yards with 23 TDs and 2 INTs, and also ran for 243 yards and 3 TDs for the Lions. He chose to stop playing football because he didn’t get any real scholarships while in JUCO, so now he just helps out the Bulldogs.

RB

D.J. Law signed with UAB, but won’t join the Blazers as their program returns. Injuries and his academic eligibility caused him to not be able to play. Blazers head coach Bill Clark said the RB could play in the NAIA (non-NCAA college ball) or Canada. Law ran for 561 yards and 5 TDs during his time with the Lions in 12 games. D.J. was one of the most explosive backs I’ve seen in a while and it’s super sad to see that he isn’t playing college ball. Hopefully, he finds a team because he is a stud.

DL

Ronald Ollie, the season’s most beloved player among watchers, transferred to FCS Nicholls State. He recorded 41 tackles and returned a blocked FG for a TD there. At EMCC, Ollie racked up 30 total tackles (23 individually), 4 TFL, 2 FF (3FR), and one INT in 7 games. He also played in 10 games for Nicholls State in 2016 and tallied 41 tackles (18 solo), 6.5 TFL, and 2 sacks. He had to sit out a couple games due to a concussion and didn’t get his dream SEC scholarship he hoped for at EMCC. Now he is transferring again, but no one knows where to yet. DL

Marcel Andry followed Ollie, played in 10 games, and appears to be staying for his senior year at Nicholls State. In nine games for EMCC, he collected 30 tackles (19 solo), one sack, and 2 TFL. He doesn’t have the best stat line for Nicholls State, but he is still playing his heart out. Currently through 4 games this year for Nicholls, Andry has collected 10 tackles (5 solo), 2 TFL, and one sack. I’m really interested to see his final numbers at the end of the year!

C.J Reavis will start at safety for Marshall after ranking as one of the Herd’s leading tacklers in 2016 (60!). The former Virginia Tech freshman was expected to start for the Hokies until a bad dismissal from the university before the season. While at EMCC, Reavis tallied 40 tackles (33 solo), one TFL, and 2 INT’s in nine games. Through 3 games of his senior season this year, he’s gathered 6 tackles (4 solo). I expect some big stats at the end of the season this year for Reavis.

RB

Isaiah Wright, who took over for Law as the team’s top RB in 2016, eventu

ally signed with Division II West Georgia after an all-around harsh year. He had major troubles with the coach, came across some injuries, and never received a D1 scholarship because of academics mainly. In nine games for the Lions, he ran for 483 yards and 7 TDs, caught 16 passes for 252 yards and 4 TDs, and had two kick returns for 137 yards, with one being a touchdown. But he left the school before this season even started, which is typical-Wright from the show. In September, he was charged with criminal homicide with his brother in connection with a July murder in Tennessee.
