“Last Chance U”……Where are They Now? Part 2

Yesterday, I posted an update on season 1’s stars of Netflix‘s original series Last Chance U. I covered an update on where they’re at in their collegiate careers, where they are playing, and stats for when they played at EMCC and where they are now. So now it’s only right that we go to season 2 and take a look at where the stars are now!

Season 2

QB

De’Andre Johnson was kicked out of Florida State University after a video showed him punching a woman at a bar. The pictures made Division I coaches cautious about showing interest in him. He’ll play for Florida Atlantic University in 2017, though the signing was made partly before Lane Kiffin agreed to coach there.

In 11 games at Community College last year, Johnson threw for 2646 yards, 26 TD’s, and 6 INT’s. He also rushed for 834 yards and 5 TD’s. So far through four games with the Owls, Johnson has appeared in one game and has gone 2/3 for five yards with an interception. He also ran four times for 31 yards. Johnson lost out in the offseason QB battle but remains a good choice if ever needed to step in. He was the best QB on the show in my opinion and hopefully turns into a star for Kiffin’s squad.

DL

Chauncey Rivers, who got kicked out of Georgia over weed, is now on Mississippi State’s roster via EMCC. The show presents him as hard-working and passionate. Rivers played 12 games for the Lions and racked up 45 tackles (25 solo), 8 sacks, 12.5 TFL, and one FF. He was a force on the DL for EMCC and looks to do the same for the Bulldogs. Unfortunately, Rivers filed an appeal with the NCAA to retain his academic eligibility but that was denied. So Rivers has to sit out this season and wait until next season to get back into D1 action!

LB

Dakota Allen lost his spot at Texas Tech because of a burglary charge but is returning to Tech after

leading EMCC in tackles and appearing to be a model citizen on the show. Allen played in 12 games for EMCC and tallied an astonishing 117 tackles (64 solo) averaging 9.8 tackles per game, 2 sacks, 3 TFL, 1 FF&FR, and one INT. Now back with the Red Raiders, Allen has collected 27 tackles (14 solo), one sack, and one INT. So you can tell he’s on a mission to show he’s back and better than ever. This past weekend in their game against Houston, Allen finished with 12 tackles (8 solo) and an interception and earned himself Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. He was a stud with EMCC and will probably continue this with Texas Tech.

DL

Tim Bonner will also attend Florida Atlantic University. You wouldn’t put it past Kiffin to sign players just because they’re on a TV show, but the former Louisville signee and Ole Miss commit certainly has talent! Bonner appeared in 12 games for the Lions, finishing with 37 tackles (23 solo), 5.5 sacks, 5.5 TFL, 1 FF, and 2 FR. He was a little slow to get going but when he did, he was hard to contain. Bonner has not played a lot in FAU’s first four games: so far he has 4 total tackles and that’s it. I really hope I get to see him improve and get some game time later in the season!

DL

Kamonte (Kam) Carter will suit up for Pitt this year and the Panthers defense needs

someone like him. Carter landing at a Power 5 school was likely a surprise to EMCC position coach Davern Williams because in the show they did not like each other. Williams even came out and said he wouldn’t get one, but Carter proved him wrong. He complained a lot on the show, but when he played, he balled out. Carter played in 12 games for the Lions and finished with 36 tackles (25 solo), 2 sacks, 6.5 TFL, and one interception. Carter, like Bonner, hasn’t played much in Pitt’s first four games, but so far he has three tackles with one being a solo tackle. Hopefully, Carter can get his act together and start balling out!

QB

Vijay Miller, Johnson’s true freshman backup who was totally outmanned in his one start but makes a Hollywood-grade clutch throw later, is now throwing for a little college football team named the San Diego Padres’ minor league system. This comes as no surprise as the reason he started playing football was that he played pitcher in baseball and wanted to try it out. Miller finished with 599 passing yards, 6 TD’s and one INT. He also rushed for 165 yards and 9 TD’s in 9 games. They mainly used Miller when they were in the red zone or really close to the goal line to run it in. He plays for the AZL Padres 2 and is doing alright. Best of luck in his baseball career.
