The Little League World Series is in full swing on ESPN. As true baseball fan’s know, Little League displays the game at its purest and innocent form. The kids who participate play hard, dream big and have fun while doing it.
But there’s one Little League World Series player this year that is already making baseball fans take notice of his shockingly dominant performance on the mound. That player is Gavin Weir.. and he’s already catching comparison’s to Chris Sale, one of the most dominant pitchers in the Major Leagues.
Rookie Of The Year Movie Star Performance
In a fictional baseball movie called “Rookie Of The Year” the Chicago Cubs sign a little league player, Henry Rowengartner, for his ability on the mound after a freak accident causes him to throw a wicked fastball. While Gavin Weir isn’t lighting up the radar gun, he’s displaying big league-like dominance against hitters his own age. “It was always my dream to go here.” Gavin Weir stated in an interview with ESPN postgame after he tossed 5.2 innings of no-hit ball while striking out 15.
Let The Kids Play
There have been some obvious trolls online that are ruining the special season that Weir is having by having their own input. Mentions of him needing Tommy John surgery in the future, him being too young to really know if he’s going to be an MLB star, and managing his workload. But none of that should matter so long as he’s having fun and feels fine, which is what the Little League World Series should be all about.
If we never hear about Gavin Weir in the future or he decides to pursue a different passion, it shouldn’t matter what others think. It’s great to see a young kid like him show impressive ability on the mound and have a smile on his face when it’s all said and done. The Little League World Series helps show us why we all got into the game in the first place and reminds us that it’s just a game. A game that’s mean to be fun.
