Love Is Blind. (L to R) Abhishek Chatterjee, Iyanna McNeely, Jarrette Jones, Deepti Vempati, Shayne Jansen, Natalie Lee in season 2 of Love Is Blind Cr. Aarón Ortega/Netflix © 2022

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

After watching the first season of “Love is Blind” I have to admit I was hooked. I’ve always been a sucker for romantic dramas and this presented a new idea that hadn’t been done before. We were all excited for season two and it has not disappointed in stupidity and drama. I know more episodes dropped last night, but I have yet to get to them. This will be a breakdown of all six couples through the first five episodes. I know this isn’t the usual content you’ll find on Student U but let’s admit it, we all have our guilty pleasures. Let’s take a look at all the couples and see if love really is blind (it certainly is not).

Danielle & Nick

I think a lot of people had Danielle and Nick pegged as this season’s Cameron and Lauren. They hit it off early and seemed to only be interested in each other from the jump. Even at first look, Danielle and Nick seemed to have that physical connection that not every couple has. However, some problems popped up while in Mexico. First red flag was Nick sharing that he made his own toothpaste and body wash. You’re trying too hard, bro. He made up for this a little bit when Danielle was battling a stomach bug and he took care of her.

But when all the couples went for drinks and Danielle couldn’t make it, the cracks started to show. Danielle was seemingly mad because Nick went and left her alone for three hours. Did he have to stay for three hours? Probably not. But to start a fight over him doing something that Netflix probably requested was odd. Then, she accused Nick of walking with another woman on the beach, which was not shown on TV. Either way, they both handled the fight pretty poorly. We end episode five with the two at their last dinner, with Nick telling Danielle his dog probably won’t like her cat, insinuating she should just throw the cat out the door. Weird behavior.

Prediction

I think Danielle and Nick will both say “yes” at the alter. Not sure how long it will last, but their connection from the pods should be enough to at least give it a shot. Extra red flag: Nick was using an Excel sheet to calculate who his best match was. Something off about that dude.

Shake & Deepti

Shake and Deepti had a chance to be one of the cutest couples in the game, if Shake wasn’t such a bad guy. In the pods, Shake was trying to figure out the women’s weights in the strangest ways. “Could I lift you on my shoulders at a concert?” was just one of those weird methods. Then, all of the sudden, Shake decides he doesn’t care about looks and totally commits to Deepti, another Indian-American who he bonds with over their culture. However, the kicker was that neither of them had been with someone of the same race and this would be a new adventure. Very cute. Unfortunately, Shake, being a bad guy, will not stop telling everyone around him that he is not physically attracted to Deepti. No one can force attraction, but he could have been way nicer about it. Meanwhile, Deepti has visions of a life together and children. She deserves way better. Shake keeps leading her on but the writing seems to be on the wall.

Prediction

It sadly feels like Shake will ultimately be the “no” in this relationship. I’m already sad thinking about how Deepti will react.

Shaina & Kyle

Buckle up, folks. Messica is back. There are too many similarities between Shaina and Kyle and Jessica and Mark from Season One. Apparently Kyle does not see it, but Shaina is NOT attracted to him, and she will do everything except admit it. Blaming differences in religion and a failed previous engagement, Shaina leaves the Mexico vacation on night one. Kyle, being naive as hell, thinks he can magically make her like him. Give it up, dude. You’re embarrassing yourself. I do feel bad for Kyle, of course. Shaina never gave him a chance, and much like Jessica, she liked someone else more in the pods: Shayne. Even worse than Jessica. Shaina gets engaged to Kyle and THEN goes to tell Shayne she wants him instead. I hope Shaina rewatches the show and realizes just how bad she looks. Mark ended up being a very bad guy, cheating all over the place, but Kyle seems like he is a good dude with his heart in a bad place with a girl that will never like him.

Prediction

Kyle will keep simping and thinking he has a shot. No way in the world Shaina says “yes”. I just hope she doesn’t drag him along. Shaina SUCKS.

Shayne & Natalie

Shayne is very similar to Barnett from Season One. The energetic, easy going guy that all the girls fight over. When he eventually chooses Natalie, a go-getter, I had my doubts. However, after they meet and interact, I start to think they have a chance. They compliment each other well. In Mexico, things start off pretty hot and heavy, with the two hitting it off and being very publicly affectionate when all the couples meet. Towards the end, some issues do come up. Shayne is very outwardly confident, but seems to need compliments and affirmation. Natalie hates giving these compliments and would rather do the whole teasing thing that sometimes seems more mean spirited than fun. I can’t blame her fully when Shayne is very in-your-face and at 100% energy at all times. Natalie even makes the remark that his high energy makes her feel low energy.

Prediction

There is a lot of volatility to Shayne and Natalie. Much like Barnett and Amber, it felt like Shayne would not be okay with settling down. But, the Barnett and Amber method seemed to work, so I’ll take my chances and say Shayne and Natalie will say “I do”. A lot of this will depend on their willingness to listen and grow with each other, but I’m hoping they give it a shot.

Mallory & Salvador

Ohh, Mal and Sal. Perhaps the biggest up and down story on the show. After choosing Sal over Jarrette, Mallory clearly was not 100% into Sal from a looks perspective. To her credit, she did give him a chance. Then, when all the couples met for drinks, Mallory was chatting it up HEAVY with Jarrette. Instead of saying anything then, Sal decided he would keep his feelings inside and wait until they were home from vacation to say that bothered him. Bad move. Mallory is a spunky personality and Sal is, to put it frankly, a bit of a beta. I think the two of them living together in the real world is going to be the biggest test. We saw night one included Sal bringing up the Jarrette situation, which of course needs to be talked about, but wayyyy earlier.

Prediction

Sal will be down to get married, but I think ultimately Mallory will be the one to say “no”. If only he had gotten her that gold ring…

Jarrette & Iyanna

I really like Jarrette and Iyanna. They bonded early after both going through trauma, and I think they work well together. The big issue was Jarrette first wanting to leave the pods with Mallory, but his relationship with Iyanna was strong from the start too. However, as mentioned before, Jarrette really seemed to hit it off with Mallory at the party. Also, we got to see his bare ass which was interesting. Anyways, it’s hard to get a read on Iyanna. I’m surprised she didn’t press Jarrette too much on the Mallory thing, but she also mentioned she is not the type of girl who is going to sit around and let him do whatever he wants, she will say something when she’s annoyed. Jarrette seems to like going out and hanging out with a lot of people, while Iyanna is more of a home body. This could either be really good for both of them, or be the last straw for their relationship.

Prediction

There was a teaser at the end of episode five that showed Iyanna shutting a car door angrily, wedding dress in hand. I am choosing to ignore this in the name of love and knowing shows love to show things out of context. This might be a bet you get at plus odds, but I’ll be taking Jarrette and Iyanna to say “yes” by seasons end.
