Over the summer, the “Is it Saturday Yet?” crew interviewed several college football players, many of which came from the MAC. One overarching theme was apparent: everyone seems to hate the Ohio Bobcats. It’s a little strange considering the Bobcats have yet to win a MAC championship game, but nonetheless they seem to be a common rival. After a 30-16 win over Ohio on Saturday, the Miami (OH) football account took to Twitter.

The problem is, the account then DELETED the post like cowards. The beautiful part of a troll is leaving the tweet online. Now, let’s make it clear. I am a huge fan of Miami QB Aveon Smith, who was the first guest on our podcast. I am also a massive fan of Ohio QB Kurtis Rourke, also a friend of the program and shown here (No. 7).

The tweet pictured is not offensive. It does not say anything bad. It’s just a rivalry that leaked onto the social media gridiron after the game. Deleting the tweet to show some kind of respect is a beta move. Again, I am a fan of Miami, specifically their great QB Aveon Smith, but you can’t walk back a tweet like that in a rivalry.

The Actual Game

As for the game itself, Miami picked up a massive win in a crowded MAC East. The Redhawks trailed 9-0 and would go on to win 30-16 in Athens. RB Rashad Amos ran for 163 yards and a TD and Smith totaled 125 yards and 2 touchdowns in his first start this season for the injured Brett Gabbert. Never fear, because our guy Kurtis Rourke finished 25/39 for 313 yards and a TD in the loss.

Big picture, Miami now controls the MAC East. Their most difficult test will be next Wednesday when they take on Buffalo, who currently sit at 3-1 in conference to Miami’s 4-1. The Redhawks have outscored their opponents 131-61 in MAC play. However, rooting for them the rest of the way is purely for Aveon Smith. Whoever runs the Miami twitter account should be ASHAMED of themselves. The Battle of the Bricks rivalry may be dead.
