Minnesota’s Sweep of Michigan: By The Numbers

The Gophers banished Michigan to the shadow realm and earned themselves a day off on Sunday. Instead of playing in a win-or-go-home Game Three, they’ll get to drink a few beers, watch some golf or watch the plethora of NHL games that Sunday has to offer. They might even watch Penn State take on Wisconsin in their decisive game three!

Here’s a look at some of the defining numbers of Minnesota’s monumental sweep of the Wolverines.

4

Four points for Rem Pitlick in two games this weekend. Two assists on Friday wasn’t enough so he scored two of his own on Saturday. My player to watch for Minnesota came through big-time for the Gophers, scoring or having the primary assist on four of their seven goals this weekend.

0

Zero goals for the Michigan power play. One of the worst units in the Big Ten didn’t provide any spark at all. Michigan needed to capitalize on those chances in order to win. They didn’t.

0

Points for Quinn Hughes. He’ll end his Michigan career on a sour note. Was he thinking ahead this weekend?

1,835

Official attendance for Friday night’s game. Yikes.

1,911

Official attendance for Saturday. Competing against the high school state tournament certainly didn’t help.

3

Points for the Pastujov Brothers. Michigan only managed four goals all weekend. The Pastujov Brothers were involved in three of them.

2

Two wins for the Gophers! They’ve won 7 of their last 8. They’re playing their best hockey at the right time of the season and looking more and more like a legit threat to not only win this tournament, but turn a couple heads in the NCAA tournament.
